Young Scholars Program

Program Overview

The IDEAS Young Scholars Program is an intensive summer institute in Kampala, Uganda, for undergraduates with strong academic backgrounds and interest in African Studies. In partnership with Makerere University’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the program introduces students to decolonial research methods, Africa-centered epistemologies, and ethical knowledge practices, culminating in the development of a rigorous research proposal on a contemporary African issue.

  • Afst 400: Decolonial Research Methodologies

Housing and Living

Students live in homestays with Makerere University faculty or staff. Lunches are taken at local eateries near campus. Weekends are generally free, with two scheduled program excursions.
