Curriculum
IDEAS offers an interdisciplinary, credit-bearing curriculum grounded in Africa-centered intellectual traditions and place-based learning. Courses are designed to engage students across disciplines while centering African histories, languages, cultural practices, and contemporary realities as sites of theory, knowledge production, and global thought. The curriculum challenges extractive and Eurocentric models of international education by foregrounding African epistemologies, community knowledge, and ethical inquiry. Coursework integrates classroom instruction with field-based learning, language immersion, and applied projects to ensure intellectual depth and contextual relevance.

IDEAS works with partner institutions to ensure that coursework aligns with university credit systems and learning outcomes. Faculty oversight, assessment standards, and academic accountability are integral to program design.
Africa-Centered Pedagogy
IDEAS centers Africa not as an object of study, but as a generator of theory, practice, and intellectual innovation. Courses emphasize:
Decolonial inquiry grounded in place
Language as a mode of knowledge, not only communication
Community-engaged and experiential learning
Critical reflection on power, history, and global relations
Through this curriculum, IDEAS equips students with the intellectual tools to engage Africa and the world with depth, humility, and analytical clarity.
